Joys of Motherhood

There are several joys of motherhood and today I witnessed some of them. I fed Krish at 5:30AM and he has a sticky poop. This means that his poop sticks to his butt and I have to "scrub" it with a wipe. Well, Krish decided to help me along by peeing on my hand. At 10:15AM, I fed Krish and was walking around with him on my chest to burp him. He promptly burped and spit up a little on my collar and down my shirt. At 5:15PM, I was playing with Krish downstairs on his playmat. I heard a long fart, about 20 seconds long. I commented to Rajesh that he should change this diaper. I picked up Krish to change his diaper and felt something warm on my arm and on my leg. His diaper was leaking poop. So in one day, I've had the joy of experiencing all of my son's bodily fluids on me.

Oh, I have a scratch on my nose.....

Dad's snoring

Krish has started to sleep in my bed. It has to be the best feeling in the whole world to cuddle up to my son while he sleeps and I sleep. Surprisingly I get more sleep when he is in my bed than when he's in the bassinet. Rajesh is a loud sleeper especially when he is tired. Krish wakes up everything Rajesh snores loudly. Great. Who stays?

Talking

Krish has started to "talk" and respond to others. Yesterday, I told him that Rajesh and I were responsible for his college tuition and his wedding expenses and then we would be done. Krish promptly responded by saying "uh" with his mouth wide open and then a sharp turn of the head to the left. Looks like its going to be a lifetime with Krish.

Happy Birthday

Happy 1 month Birthday to my dear Son!

Dancing

Krish and I are in his room. The music in the background is Andrea Bocelli. My son is looking at me and occasionally smiling. As I look at him, his face crumbles and he starts to cry. I pick him up and start to dance. I'm dancing with my son. His chest is on mine and I hold his hand up and it's one-together, two-together and spin. I'm dancing with my son. I think that one day I'll dance with him at his wedding reception. I cry. Don't grow up too fast son.

Clothes

The sun is shining brightly in Krish's room. He lies on a tummy time mat, looking around at the decor on the walls. I'm sitting next to him with a pile of clothes next to me. I'm sorting through his wardrobe and organizing "party" clothes from "kick it" clothes. I arrive at a stack of onesies, decorated with frogs, monkeys and giraffes. These will go into a ziploc bag labeled "newborn". Krish can no longer wear these. They are small. His first set of clothes are small for him. I cry. My son's getting bigger.

Sleeping

Sleeping is so overrated! Whoever knows me, knows that I cherish my sleep. In fact, it was a reminder that my brother stated to my husband at our engagement party, "don't wake up Priya when she's sleeping."

Krish has to eat every 2.5 - 3 hours, more often if he is hungry. And, I like to give him fresh breastmilk. This means that I must get up every 2.5 hours and pump. But, if I have to wash bottles and pump and feed him, I must get up every 1.5 - 2 hours. Now, for a sleeper like me, you'd think I'd hate it. But, I love it! When I initially wake up, I'm not so happy but then one look at Krish beta, and I'm done. I have no problem getting up, washing bottles, pumping and feeding him. All for that one smile, that look of content, that sigh of relief, from my son.

Just don't wake me up for anything else...

Hiccups

Who knew that hiccups could move his body so much! My little guy gets the hiccups approximately 20 minutes after his feeding. It is so loud that it wakes him up and it is so forceful that his entire body shakes. Any solutions???

Mom's realization

February 1, 2010

For the first time, I'm seeing what my Mother had only described as "you're getting older". I witnessed my son "starting to get older". He smiled at me with purpose, when I smiled at him. He stared at me when I was looking at him. And when I moved my face, he followed it to see where I was going. He's starting to get older.

I placed him on his ocean mat and he looked at the lights. He moved his body in a vigorous series of yoga moves. He looked at me when I took his picture. My son's getting older.

There is a certain type of feeling, a deep level of affection that I have for my son. I've never felt this way before, not for my husband or anyone else in my family. When I look at him, I smile and then feel so elated that tears instantly burst into my eyes. My son. What a powerful word. Son. Thank you Krish for giving me the privilege of being your mother.
